ClipWord Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15 October 2026
ClipWord has no accounts, no ads, and doesn't sell your data. This page explains what the app stores and what it sends over the network.
Stored on your device
Your search history, saved meanings, collections, language choices, and settings are stored only on this device. ClipWord doesn't upload them to any server.
Dictionary lookups
To show an entry, ClipWord sends the word you look up to Wiktionary (en.wiktionary.org, run by the Wikimedia Foundation) and to kaikki.org, which publishes Wiktionary data. Pronunciation audio is loaded from Wikimedia Commons. These services see the request and your IP address, as with any website, and handle it under their own privacy policies.
Crash reports and usage statistics
ClipWord uses Google Firebase Crashlytics to find crashes. Crash reports include crash details, device model, Android version, app version, and an installation identifier. They're on by default and you can turn them off in Settings → Privacy.
If you allow it, ClipWord also uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used, such as which features are opened. Nothing is collected until you agree, and you can change your mind in Settings → Privacy. Usage statistics include app interactions, device model, Android version, app version, approximate country, and an app instance identifier.
Neither service receives the words you look up or save, and ClipWord doesn't use your advertising ID.
AnkiDroid
If you allow it, ClipWord reads your AnkiDroid decks and note types and adds the cards you export. This happens on your device. ClipWord doesn't send your Anki collection anywhere.
Android backup
If Android backup is turned on, your ClipWord data may be included in your device backup, managed by Google under your account settings.
Sharing
ClipWord doesn't sell or share your personal data with anyone, apart from the services described above.
Deleting your data
You can clear your search history in Settings. Uninstalling ClipWord or clearing its storage in Android settings removes everything it has stored on the device.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will appear here and on the ClipWord Play Store page.
